Clematis integrifolia 'Mongolian Bells' ­ This Plant Select choice is a very compact form of the common herbaceous species. It is available in a spectrum of colors (including pink, white, lavender and blue) that bloom from May to September. Growing 10-14 inches tall it makes the perfect edging or mounding clump in a border or Xeriscape garden. Mongolian Bells forms attractive seed heads in late summer and fall. Plant this Clematis in full sun to part shade in moderate to dry loamy soils. It is hardy in zones 3-9.
Nepeta 'Little Trudy' ­ This Plant Select hybrid catnip was selected at Little Valley Wholesale Nursery for its distinctive serrated, silvery foliage and long season of lavender bloom. Little Trudy will bloom from April to October in full sun to part shade. It is hardy in zones 4-9 and thrives under average or xeric conditions. It is the most compact catnip cultivar, growing only 8-10 inches tall and 12-16 inches wide.
Scrophularia macrantha Red Birds In A Tree ­ This Plant Select plant was introduced in 1996. This rare penstemon cousin has showy crimson tubular flowers which are produced in generous sprays above rich green serrated foliage. It reaches 36 inches tall and 18 inches wide in full sun to part shade. This south-western uplands wildflower has shown great adaptability in gardens, but does best in moderate to dry conditions. It is hardy in zones 4-9.
Achillea 'Tutti Frutti Pink Grapefruit', 'Tutti Frutti Pomegranate' ­ These vigorous, mound-forming Yarrows were bred for their compact habit, strong stature and wonderful flower uniformity. 'Pink Grapefruit' has rose flowers that fade to a light rose., 'Pomegranate' is a striking magenta color unlike any other. Both will reach 29 inches in height and approximately 28 inches spread. Both overwintered successfully in Zone 5. Yarrow grows best in full sun and drier conditions. A Blooms of Bressingham variety.
Helianthus 'Hartswood Ruby' ­ This Blooms of Bressingham variety displays bright, saucer-shaped flowers that are true velvety red with bright-gold stamens from May to July. They may reflower in fall. Plants form low cushions of narrow, glossy, evergreen foliage 6-8 inches tall.
Sedum 'Lemon Coral' ­ Needle-shaped leaves form spikes of light yellow green. Similar to 'Angelina', but brighter yellow and more upright and uniform in habit. Also less brittle when handling. Grows 6-8 inches tall in full sun to part sun. Hardy in Zones 3-11.
Silene 'Firefly' ­ Blooms of Bressingham introduction. The dark magenta-red 1 inch double flowers bloom in mid-spring on long stems above the foliage. Vigorous upright plants with strong stems and gray-green foliage reaches 30 inches in height by 24 inches spread. Grows best in full sun. Hardy to zone 5. Use in the middle or back of flower beds or mass in the landscape.
